“Thriving Together: Family Coaching for Stronger Bonds and Resilience”
A collaborative partnership between coach, child and parents
Family Coaching Goals
One of the goals I have with family coaching is to help children build skills to independently self-adjust their behaviors in various social settings.
However, this becomes overly difficult because of their lack of executive function skills. Teaching children how to self-adjust social skills requires a more proactive approach to maximize the effect that would be more impactful and recognizable in the long run.
This approach of family coaching is most appropriate for kids aged 5 to 7 years old, or early elementary school, as well as young adults. We can discuss an approach most appropriate for your family!
Kid Coaching involves a compassionate approach to skill development including:
Assessment of the child’s needs, behaviors, skills, and learning style
Development of concrete goals and supportive strategies
Direct one-on-one teaching of skills
Measured tracking progress
For young children and/or children with high support needs, treatment methods are play-based
Coaching Topics:
Understanding processing modalities & character strengths
Learning how to ask for help
Improving focus during tasks at home and school
Enhancing communication skills
Navigating friendships and social situations
Managing transitions effectively
Cultivating adaptive behavior
Helping your child’s transition from school to home
At Home:
Clean up without assistance
Complete hygiene tasks independently
Decide how to spend allowance
Complete homework for 20 minutes max
Bring papers to and from school
And Anywhere Else:
Stand in line and keep hands to themselves
Follow 2-3 step instructions
Inhibit behaviors (e.g., Don’t interrupt people when they are speaking)
